Maria Theresa, or Maria Theresia Walburga Amalia Christina, empress of the Hapsburg Empire (read: Austria) from 1740 to 1780, was actually an extremely awesome ruler. Despite being in a country isolated from the Enlightenment ideas floating around west Europe at the time, she was probably the most Enlightened ruler of them all at that time.
I hate having to read so much, but she’s really interesting.
